What Is Shakeology?

It is a meal replacement shake that is designed to reduce calorific intake by skipping one meal a day (and replacing it with the shake).

It is a vegan-friendly product that uses no animal compounds whatsoever and is available in 3 different flavors (strawberry, chocolate, and vanilla).

Who Makes Shakeology?

It is owned by one of the largest brands in the health and fitness world – Beachbody.

They are the organization behind some of the most well-known fitness programmes (such as p90x and Insanity) and several highly regarded supplements.

They are a highly respected company admired by consumers and fitness professionals alike.

Best Shakeology Alternative

Due to all the negative reviews about Shakeology, we’ve been looking for a competitive product that was proven more effective. We checked several of them with deception, and finally came around a real effective meal replacement program. You can read its review HERE.

How Does Shakeology Work?

Shakeology helps you lose weight by aiming to provide a low-calorie meal replacement that can stave off feelings of hunger until your next meal.

This is nothing particularly special and is a scientifically proven way to reduce your daily calorific intake (and in turn lose weight).

However, we see no evidence of appetite suppressant capabilities.

Beachbody makes amazing claims in their marketing of the product (like all brands do), but they offer very little in terms of research or verifiable studies we can base our opinion upon.

There was a small amount of data that we were able to look at, but we discounted it as it felt strongly like marketing material more than real verifiable data.

But simply put, if it can do what it claims – you will get thinner.

If not, you won’t.

What’s In Shakeology?

As previously mentioned, Shakeology ingredients are vegan-friendly and are all naturally sourced). They are all FDA certified as safe for ingestion and include:

  • Whey Protein
  • Probiotic Enzyme Blend
  • Proprietary Adaptogen Blend
  • Superfruit Blend
  • Quinoa
  • Chia seeds
  • Goji Berry
  • Schisandra

Are There Any Shakeology Reviews?

We found several Shakeology reviews during our research for this article. There was a fairly even mix between positive and negative feedback.

The main positive point that was repeatedly mentioned (in both professional and customer reviews) was the great tasting flavors of the shakes.

Anecdotally many people seemed to be very happy with how good they tasted. This is an excellent feature considering they low-calorie products.

However, there were several reviews that contrasted to this which were quite negative. We found multiple instances of people claiming that it did nothing to alleviate their hunger cravings.

In several instances, this anecdotally led the reviewer to eat (as well as drinking the shake).

This is obviously a less than ideal situation as it resulted in the reviewers actually consuming more calories than they would have done if they had just eaten a meal instead of drinking the shake in the first place.

Note: When we review any meal replacement shake it is inevitable that we will come across a review or two that states the consumer still felt hungry. We found many more instances of this with Shakeology’s reviews compared to what we feel to be “average” levels.

shakeology reviews amazonDoes Shakeology Work?

This is a difficult section for us to honestly answer. If you are able to stick to the plan and find that Shakeology sufficiently reduces your hunger cravings between meals – then yes, Shakeology will work.

However, the reviews say that this could be more difficult than it sounds due to the anecdotally limited appetite suppressant capabilities Shakeology seems to have.

Do We Recommend Shakeology?

We take a very neutral position on Shakeology when it comes to making a recommendation. We don’t feel willing to put our reputation on the line to recommend a meal supplement shake that doesn’t make the consumer feel full.

However, on the other hand, Shakeology does appear to have made a very tasty shake that has incredibly low calorific content (with all natural and vegan ingredients).

Due to this, we are in the unusual situation where we can’t fully recommend Shakeology, but we don’t advise against you trying it out either.

Where Can I Buy Shakeology?

Shakeology’s products can be found in many different places (including Amazon, Wallmart, and GNC).

But like most products we recommend, it’s usually best to get it directly from Beachbody themselves on the Shakeology website.

Are There Guarantees, Coupons, Or Free Trials?

Shakeology often runs a 7-day free trial promotion through various partners (mainly Beachbody) that allows you to try before you buy.

This is something that many other meal replacement shake brands will not offer.

Additionally, it provides what they call their “bottom of the bag guarantee” on all purchases. This essentially means you can return unused, open, or empty packets to the manufacturer and get a full refund within 30 days. We cannot verify how easy it is to action this refund, but Beachbody is a respected large company – we would be surprised if they made the process difficult.

Conclusion

By the time we got to the end of the research for this review, we were feeling slightly surprised.

We were expecting to be able to strongly recommend Shakeology’s products due to the feedback we had heard about their great taste, and the fact they are made by Beachbody.

However, the reviews that claimed it did not adequately suppress appetite were enough to put us off giving it our recommendation.

There are better products on the market in our opinion (that are much less risky for us to recommend).

This being said, there are also worse products on the market too. If you want to give Shakeology a try you may find yourself pleasantly surprised.

But we would be lying if we said you’re not taking a risk.

This vanilla shake tastes horrible! And it’s too expensive compared to standard meal replacement supplements sold in health stores.

by Verdie V. review for Shakeology

Made me feel really bloated. Is this the “full” feeling that they’re talking about?

by Julia Ostroff review for Shakeology

The flavor is good, and it alleviated my hunger pangs. However, I do wish that it was cheaper. Most meal replacement shakes in my local GNC are way cheaper than this.

by Archie J.  review for Shakeology

This shake is overpriced. But the good thing about it is that it is somewhat a complete package—meal replacement, protein shake, and multivitamin in one formulation.

by Rudy R. review for Shakeology

After taking this shake, I felt hungrier after a few hours. Yeah, it quickly “replaces” your meal, all right. Hahahaha!
